Guest Speaker: UCONN Master Gardener Coastal Certification Program

Joe Magazzi Speaker UCONN Master Gardener Joe Magazzi of Green Earth Ag and Turf spoke at the UCONN Master Gardener's Coastal Certificate Program on March 14, 2018 at Connecticut College in New London CT. The session included Dr. Thomas Morris of UCONN and Holly Drinkuth of the Nature Conservancy. Joe discussed how to use beneficial biology and organic fertility to reduce fertilizer use and pesticides and the subsequent runoff from coastal soils. The Coastal Certificate Program is designed to generate ambassadors of alternative landscaping practices for Connecticut coastal and watershed residents.

Jenna Messier of Green Earth Ag & Turf Vice PresidentGreen Earth Ag & Turf is growing again! We are happy to announce the arrival of our new Vice President of Business Development, Jenna Messier. Jenna began her career with a B.S. in Agriculture from The Ohio State University and spent 10 years on Martha’s Vineyard working in the landscaping industry and organic farming. Most recently, she was Director of the NOFA Organic Land Care Program for 5 years, where she led the Accreditation Program which is the gold standard in organic land care education. In 2016, Jenna earned the Executive MBA degree from the University of New Haven. She is passionate about both organic agriculture and organic land care and she is ready to join the Green Earth Ag & Turf team to expand the availability of high quality organic products nationwide.

We covered Updates on Organic Fertility, with a specific focus on using soil biology to reduce fertilizer and advances in biologicals for disease and pest control. We joined Chip Osborne and other industry leaders to help municipal and private turf field professionals transition to greener turf practices. We had a great and enthusiastic audience.  It is great to see the organic and IPM turf industries starting to focus on novel scientific approaches to soil health and turf management.  Organics & IPM are no longer a compromise, in fact this is quickly becoming the best practice!

Green Earth Ag & Turf Hires Marketing DirectorGreen Earth Ag & Turf is excited to announce the addition of a new team member! Andrew Cicarella has joined the "family" as a Senior Director of Marketing. He has a wide range of marketing experience in the digital and print worlds, and will help us improve many aspects of our rapidly growing company. Andrew most recently worked on the Marketing teams for HomeServe USA and Fiserv. He has a Master’s Degree from Springfield College and a Bachelor’s Degree from Albertus Magnus College. Many of you will be meeting and speaking with Andrew in the future, we welcome him aboard!

Guest Speaker: CNLA Winter Conference 2016

Joe Magazzi Speaking at CNLAGreen Earth Ag & Turf's Joe Magazzi gave a talk at the 2016 CNLA Winter Symposium & Expo. The talk was on a on grubGONE! and beetleGONE!, a novel biological approach to grub, beetle, chafer, weevil and borer control that kills white grub and adult beetles, is organic, safe for people and the environment (even exempted from many EPA bans in the state of CT), and does not harm bees or other beneficial insects. A true "Game Changer" in grub and beetle control that does not require any harmful synthetic compounds!

The segment will now be an annual part of Kevin Gallagher's "Digging in the Dirt" series dealing with organic gardening and farming. We will give yearly updates on Organic Growing: what's new and exciting in organic treatments, science and technology. We had a great discussion on all of the great things that we learned after a winter of attending trade shows and lectures.

Award - Young Nursery Professional of the Year

Green Earth Ag and Turf's own Emily Magazzi was awarded the New England Nursery Association's (NENA) Young Nursery Professional of the Year Award for 2014! Connecticut Governor Darnel Malloy was also on-hand to visit and support all the great work that the Connecticut Nursery and Landscape Association and NENA does, and to take a picture with Emily after she received her award. Congratulations to Emily for all of her hard work and efforts, and thanks to the CNLA and NENA for the prestigious honor!

Trade Show

Neptune's Harvest Turf Formula Green Earth Ag & TurfGreen Earth Ag and Turf exhibited at NOFA's Organic Land Care Program's Annual Gathering on December 11, 2013 at Crowned Plaza Hotel in Southbury Connecticut.  This show was a joint effort with our friends at Neptune's Harvest to introduce their new Turf Formula a great organic fertilizer for turf care professionals and home owners that contains fish, seaweed, hamates, molasses and yucca extract; but has no Phosphorous value and can be used in Connecticut and other states in compliance with Phosphate fertilizer bans.

Monroe, CT (04/03/2012): Green Earth Staffer Emily Magazzi Certified As ‘Connecticut Accredited Nursery Professional’.

"24 green industry persons recently passed one of the toughest courses in horticulture in Connecticut to be certified as “Connecticut Accredited Nursery Professionals” (CANP). The rigorous 13-week course is held every fall for trades people employed by garden centers, landscapers, nurseries, and greenhouses in the state. It’s tough: out of 126 persons who took the course this past year, only 24 passed the exam. Taught by instructors of the University of Connecticut and Naugatuck Valley Community College, the CANP course covers must-know horticultural studies such as plant identification, botany, soils, plant nutrition, plant diseases, insects, weeds, lawns, landscaping, safety, worker protection, etc. The course is open only to the green trade. Persons passing the CANP regimen are considered among the top professionals among the 48,000 persons who work daily in Connecticut’s green industry, and are entitled to use the certification letters “CANP” after their name."
